Since 1989, on the water.
The building, the family, the water.
Gulfport native Maddy Stoehs Guenther grew up around this corner of Boca Ciega Bay. The building had been in her family for years — one side was a snack bar, with a gas station down at the corner. In 1989 she and her husband Joe put an "O'" in front of her name, opened the doors, and O'Maddy's has been a Gulfport landmark ever since.
What started as the idea of an Irish pub grew into the two-story, open-air waterfront spot locals know today: ground-floor tables by the rail, a covered rooftop deck built for live music, blue umbrellas out front, and that hand-lettered turquoise wave sign glowing over the entrance. Joe still runs the floor; the same family has been behind the bar the whole time.
It has always been a come-as-you-are place. Boaters dock across the street by the Gulfport Casino and walk over. Families come in — there's a Colton's Cheeseburger on the kids' menu. Stetson law students come to release the tension from their studies. Craft-beer drinkers and live-music fans have a real home here, and one local writer summed up the feeling best: a little bit of that Sloppy Joe's, Key West vibe, right on the bay.
